New Life, New City

Some might claim life to be the ultimate journey. Welcome back, tree-friends, to this chapter of my expedition toward a place to call my own. If you’ve kept up with my travels in the past, you might remember that I just recently moved away from where I spent the last twenty years of my life, Las Vegas, to my new home—Fordland, Missouri.

My journey began in the early morning of August 5th. As I started my long drive, my stops included cities like Gallup, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. But the point of this journey wasn’t to see more of the same. I wanted brand new views and sources of inspiration, so I powered through the desert landscape of Arizona and into the lush states of New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. I stayed the night in Albuquerque and Oklahoma City to catch up on some rest and savor my time in both cities.

I arrived in Fordland on Saturday, the 7th, at about 6 pm. Have you ever sat down for a long road trip, just the passing sights in mind and the wheel warm beneath your hands? It’s a magical sensation, a moment suspended in time where anything can happen. My intention for this trip was to just enjoy the sights and experience whatever I could. Part of me just wanted to get to Missouri, and the rest of me wanted to take as long as I could, relishing in the freedom of the road.

I was like a child on their first trip, I had the windows down and enjoyed the wind with no expectations for the world, just the simple pleasure of traveling. My favorite places were Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and Oklahoma City. I stopped at an original diner called the Silver Moon at the edge of Santa Rosa, located on Route 66 and serving delicious meals since 1959. I also visited the Memorial site in Oklahoma City and had a fantastic brunch downtown at Kitchen 324.

I have been in Missouri for almost 4 weeks now—though I’ve been settling into my Missouri life, I’m still learning the ins and outs of this new home, using my GPS to get to Springfield and learn the roads. Fordland is about 20 minutes from Springfield by hi-way, but I love the contrast of living in a rural area of about 800 people and being so close to a very progressive and vibrant city. The drive is always worth it! Getting settled into the arts community takes a bit of time but I have found a perfect starting point: The Springfield Arts Council, the hub for all things in the arts, including visual, dance, theater, symphony, and much more.

In a serendipitous moment, I’ve found the perfect spot inside of Relic’s Antiques and Collectibles for my physical location for The Healing Tree Studio. 2015 W. Battlefield Rd, Springfield, MO Booth #R-10. The location is warm and friendly with a diverse array of customers. Now I have the joy of directing anyone to this location, and I can focus on other venues for my artwork.

Moving is difficult. It’s a transition that shifts all aspects of life, and requires huge mental adjustment. But I have no regrets about my move—I love it here. The arts seem to be a large part of this city, and they certainly aren’t going anywhere. It’s perfect for me and I believe I can call this home. I hope you’ll settle with me in this beautiful new space, where creativity and growth can thrive. Until next time!

Better Late Than Never

No more fooling around, everyone–the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and the breezes are warm and refreshing! I’m leaning into brighter days and admiring the growth all around me. Now is the perfect time to make peace with change and embrace what the universe has in store for you, as green shoots push past the dirt and the sun warms overhead. Take time to ponder; what’s something great that spring holds for you?

Maybe it holds an opportunity to get back out into the world. For my Las Vegas locals, there is a live art fair happening on April 17th that I’ll be participating in, located at Bruce Trent Park (8851 Vegas Dr. Las Vegas, NV 89128). The fair is open from 10am to 4pm, so it’s the perfect time to get out of the house and be surrounded by art and nature with over 50 different participants. I’d love to see you there!

If you’re unable to stop by the live art fair, check out new notecards in my shop instead. I’ve created a vibrant and eye-catching set of six, depicting simple and colorful trees with matching borders. With the use of watercolor and ink these make a gorgeous card to send to anyone you love, whether you’re wishing them a Happy Birthday, hoping they get well soon, or simply saying thank you!

Let’s celebrate Janet S for winning my March prize of Canvas Bookmark. A brand new prize will be shared on my Facebook page, and you can like or comment on the monthly giveaway post to enter. The winner will be chosen on April 30th at 6pm live on my page, so make sure you stop by and join us to find out if you’re the lucky one!

Starting with March, I’ve begun to send out newsletter updates to those signed up for my Artist Insights. By signing up, you can stay up to date with my new creations, artist events like festivals and sales, and a few special moments happening in my world. Better yet–you’ll also get a 15% discount for my shop that you can spend on any artwork. Join now on my website to keep up with exclusive tidbits from The Healing Tree Studio world.

A time for meditation

Finding peace is more important now than ever, but I’ve found that it’s easier said than done. We’ve all heard about the benefits of meditation, but the idea of stepping away from our daily lives can be intimidating when the possibilities feel so endless. How do we begin? How do we measure the change that it makes on our lives?

I think that I’m the kind of person who can quiet my mind for a bit. But lately, I have struggled with my own meditation. When the results feel unclear, questions arise in my mind: maybe I’m trying too hard to make it a part of my daily routine, or maybe I’m putting too much pressure on myself not to think. Recently, in search of answers to these thoughts, I’ve started rereading a book called “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” by Dr. Joe Dispenza. It’s more of a path to peace than just an informative book, and within it is a link to a guided meditation.

I find that guided meditations work very well. Through it I’m beginning to focus on breathing without being distracted by thoughts of the day or anything major on my mind. While it might seem counterintuitive, I’ve discovered that my meditation routine does not include sitting on the floor crossed-legged and in a typical pose. Instead I sit in my desk chair, facing my window with the warm sun upon my face and my headset on. The guide I follow is a water-rising induction-type mediation and is an intense yet relaxing 20 minute session. Dr. Dispenza said that meditation doesn’t have to come from thoughtless relaxation but can also focus on one deep moment of interest. In my case, it would be when I’m drawing, painting, and creating. The realization that I don’t have to follow any trend on “how” to meditate as long as I do it truly opened my mind and my approach to mediation. I’m fortunate enough to work from home and be surrounded by my creativity, where my window looks out on the bright world and my heart is full of gratitude for a beautiful view. I hope that my experience opens the possibilities within mediation for you. With all the instructional “How to” books and approachable videos out there, meditation can take any form if you live in the NOW. Your moment of focus can be anything, whether it’s gardening, reading, taking a bath, or anytime you feel grounded.

And the winner is…

Spring has sprung, tree-friends, and warmer breezes are headed our way at last! I hope that wherever you are, green growth is poking through the remnants of winter and brighter days have come to stay. Let’s brush away those fallen leaves and find something brilliant underneath.

These days, I’m ready to welcome unexpected delights and a future full of endless potential. In a series of unstretched canvas pieces where I’ve explored the relationship between doors, windows, and the outside world, this potential exists as decisions we make along our life path. Through the creation of these tapestries with inks, watercolors, acrylics, and even real tree branches, these symbols of possibility can hang on your wall as a reminder of what wonders your future might hold. As windows give us a glimpse toward opportunity and new doors open to us, it’s important to take a chance once in a while and turn the knob.

Let’s celebrate a breath of fresh air and wish someone close to you a very Happy Birthday! New birthday cards are now available in my shop, perfect for those spring-born friends and family members. These handmade cards are sure to put a smile on both their face and yours as we welcome the coming season.

Moving Forward in the new year

Welcome back, Tree-lovers. It’s a new era in the universe of The Healing Tree Studio. 2020 has come and gone and love is in the air!

December and January provided me with a sort of creative hibernation, and I’ve spent this time honing my skills and creating new pieces from the heart. Customizable and personalized bookmarks are here just in time for you to share some love with that special Valentine of yours. The growing heart design embraces a sensation of care, while warm and joyful colors bring light to the pages of your book. Add your initials to make this piece even more memorable, or customize it with a gorgeous tassel.

These bookmarks are available on Etsy and my website, and better yet can be purchased on sale for $19.99 from $24.99. Whether you celebrate Cupid’s day or not, these bookmarks make the perfect gift to spread some joy with someone you love! (Or maybe even a treasured purchase to nurture self-love.)

As we move forward into the new year and seek the things that bring us joy, I want to announce an exciting event. Beginning in January, I’ll be hosting monthly giveaways on my Facebook. Each month I’ll give a different item away, including a set of six notecards, a laminated bookmark set, a canvas bookmark, and many more surprise items to come. A live announcement of the giveaway winner will be on the last Sunday of each month at 6 pm PST, so please stop by and join us for a chance to win a work of art.

If you’re as excited as I am about the new work coming to The Healing Tree Studio, you can keep up with announcements in my Artist Insights newsletter and receive a 15% discount for any item, at any amount.

Maybe, wherever you are in the world, the trees past your window have lost their leaves and stand empty against the blue of the sky. Or maybe they’re full and green and lively, with birds nesting among the branches and leaves dancing in the wind. Maybe, like me, you look at these trees and reflect on how bright the world is and how wonderful it is to celebrate those you love and treasure. Here in my studio, the inspiring energy of creation has kicked into gear and it’s time for growth and discovery. Thank you for joining me on this journey and I hope you’ll stick around for the ride!

The Studio Reveal

Yes, the rumors are true. My art studio is ready to occupy. This has been the longest flooring install ever!. It’s all in the prep work and having the right tools and patience. It really would not have taken this long but it is our first time and frankly it turns out we did not purchase the best quality of product. But it’s all good.

So, between the all of the challenges and other projects going on I would say I am very happy with the results. New wall colors, new flooring. Painting all the trim, baseboards, closet doors, ceilings, new hardware; door knobs, towel, toilet paper, hand towel racks and shower curtain. Along with new bedding, pillows, area rugs. I believe I am all set. There is always something new to buy and some need to fulfill but all in time.

Since I don’t know what I need in my studio until I start working and realize “hey I need this or that” I am working with what I have. My work station in a folding table, which I like because I don’t want anything to big or heavy that I can’t break down and move. Did I just say move? EEK! Here is a little secret, I have asked Karol if I could occupy these rooms for 1 year, as I want to leave Las Vegas. I am in two months of my one year goal already.

Among all this new flooring I have been getting ready for the Holiday season with my Etsy shop. I will be adding some new sized bookmark art, new greeting and note cards and ideally I would like to add some gift sets. This is a lot of work to do in a short period of time so we’ll see how this turns out.

The entrance to my studio space.

My studio space. Approximately 10′ x 11′

And there you have it! My new space for The Healing Tree Studio. For the next 10 months of my life this is where I will be. Creating, drawing and painting and living the dream. I do have some details to finish but it is obviously ready to occupy.

I recall in an earlier post that I mentioned the wall color and misspelled it. It is Oyster Pearl, that is and will be the color for the entire house. I love it. I painted the ceilings and closets, and all trim and doors a very white called Cameo White. New brushed stainless for all hardware. The baseboards were reattached using a nail gun and chalking strips and gun. The actual flooring is a laminate click-in floating floor. I have a couple of transition pieces to fit into the areas going to the bathroom and the “bedroom” area. The floor is lower then the tiled floor of the bathroom so it requires a custom piece. Overall I give it a “A”. So what do you think?

The bedroom is done as well but I still have some tools and table in there and it won’t make for nice photos so next time I will sneak those into my post.

Until next time…

Other Worlds-The Collection

A new card collection has arrived. In fact two new sets have been added to my Etsy shop and my online shop. I started to do a full set of 6 note cards with a yellow-green back ground but stopped at 3 and will double up on each one to complete the set. I titled this set “Sharing The Pond”

My second collection of note cards I have titled these “Other Worlds”. As I was painting the canvas for them I was watching a science fiction show and thought I wonder if they have trees on other planets and what would they look like? So I named after my thought process.

As for the floors of my new spaces let’s just say, it is a longer undertaking then thought. We have back tracked a bit to even the sub flooring, it is not bad but uneven enough to make a difference in the planks not fitting properly. I keep mentioning peel n’ stick flooring but it keeps getting bunked. UM?

That what I have for you this time.

Cheers,

In between done and not even close

Where do I begin besides telling you I am not done. Waiting for the flooring to come in. July 23/24. Although the flooring isn’t here, I still need to do some minor touch ups. This reminds of being in Mexico. When I was in Puerto Vallarta, I had seen a lot of unfinished houses on the water and someone said to me that “they’re on Mexico time, it gets done when it’s done”. We took a shore excursion to a small unfinished building that was eventually going to be a bed and breakfast type of place. There was about 12 of us on this little boat and as we pulled up to the place it clearly was not habitable and still under construction, I asked the guide how long have they been working on it and he replied, “four years”.

Meanwhile back in my bedroom/studio, I am getting cramped. I am doing my best not to purchase items until I move. I am keeping up on supplies and the basics of running my shop but it’s sometimes difficult to pass up a sale on shelving and tables and all the cool stuff that I envision for my studio. Speaking of being cramped, prepare! I am sharing some photos of my current environment.

Yes, I do clean up before going to bed, but this is what it looks like when I am working. Gulp! So you can see I have limited space to add anything. You would think I would be in a hurry to move working under these conditions.

So here are the updates on the two rooms and other projects that keep me busy.

A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked me to do some custom bookmarks and a set of note cards. She wanted them for her parents birthday’s that are a month a part. They live in Colorado on a property surrounded by trees! This was a great project for me and perfect timing.

Another project that came to me was a commission piece for hanging art. I’ve done a couple for this friend a while back but she was ready for something for herself. I finished and delivered that this week. It’s been a minute since I have done anything on canvas, since my shop opening in April. I have been so focused on bookmarks and note cards, it was strange at first but of course it’s like riding a bike. The photos below show the progress of how it started to the last photo is the finished art.

Along with all of these projects I have managed to come up with some new note card designs. I think I may have two sets of cards. This first set is of three different designs and will be a card set of 6 with two of each card. The second set is still in progress but I am sharing what I have so far.

Titled “Sharing The Pond” Set of three note cards
Titled “Other Worlds” Set of six note cards

These are my projects keeping me busy these days. I will have the new cards listed on Etsy and my website, TheHealingTreeStudio.com by next week (July 27th). I just received notice the flooring is in. We are headed to the store here shortly. So, stand by for funny pics coming soon.

Until next time, Cheers

New Studio Updates

Super excited to share some updates on my new studio space. It has been a couple of weeks since my last post but here are some pics. Turns out we are doing the floors after all. Surprise!. We were going back and forth about keeping the carpet or not.

Off to the floor store. I don’t have a photo of the flooring but it is a laminate material and we are doing it our selves. Something I didn’t want to do but some how got tricked into being excited about it. The flooring has been ordered as it was not in stock. This has given us time to finish and painting details and of course remove the carpet and prep the floor properly.

That is where I am at with my new rooms. The flooring will take about 14 days to come in. The 23rd of July is when it is scheduled to arrive. Because of this change in flooring, it has caused a domino effect. These two upstairs bedrooms are attached to a small hall landing area which is attached to a master bedroom, which is attached to stairs, which is attached to another landing. In short, it doesn’t stop. When completed we will have new flooring in four bedrooms, two landings and a flight of stairs. Along with new paint in the whole house, new fixtures and lighting in the kitchen.

I’am thinking this might have started when I asked to move upstairs into those two rooms. What lesson have I learned here??

As far as my art and Etsy shop, things are going well. I posted on social media my new cards and they have been well received. I have also picked up a couple of commission pieces to do. One wall hanging and one order for customized bookmarks and a set of note cards for a couple that live in Colorado.

Below are the images of the new note card collection. I have updated the amount of cards. A set of 6 notes cards with white envelopes and packaged in a clear acrylic box then wrapped in tissue paper. I will post images of the commission work when it’s done and sent off. I don’t want to spoil the surprise.

I wanted to write something since I missed last week. so this is what I have been up to. I hope to have my commission pieces done and sent off so I can post those pics. I think I am looking to move into my spaces the first two weeks of August. Or third! How ever it works out I am beyond excited. Working from my bedroom is getting real tight. I am sleeping with my artwork.

Until next week, cheers!
